Designing for scale

Qasa is a home rental service  that allows people to find and rent homes for long-term stays. It was acquired by Blocket Bostad/Schibstedt in 2018.

I developed the new UX, design system and documentation to be used by Qasa and Blocket's home rental sites in Sweden, Norway and Finland.

The challenge

Following a year focused on rapid user growth, Qasa was in need of a redesign that could be integrated with Blocket Bostads home listings in Sweden and subsequently their sister sites in Norway and Finland.

Each UI component should be able to be used by the greater design system and should contribute positively to the system at scale. There should be no isolated features or outliers.

Schibstedt's market places exists in 24 countries around the globe where every country has developed a unique brand and design language. From the start I wanted to be sure to create a design and compnents that could be used and be built upon by several different platforms, while at the same time serving millions of daily users all over the world.

A big challenge was to make the new UI almost brand agnostic with minimal use of icons and other specific brand markers. We ended up using one main color that had to be interchangeable to fit the different brands.
A common pattern was new sign-ups that never completed their rental profile and therefore didn't get much proposals from guests. I created big, splashy CTA's at the top of the screen to nudge users to make more attractive listings.
